WHAT IS “DO THIS IN MEMORY”?
Do This in Memory is a community-based First Communion preparation program focused on the community celebration of the Sunday Eucharist and at home. The program materials are designed to help parents, families, and communities take an active part in preparing the sacrament. The program takes place once a month for nine months before the First Eucharist and ends with the parish celebration on Corpus Christi.
The program is initiated by inviting parents of First Communion children to a meeting at each of our three schools in the community to outline the program to them and inviting parent representatives to form a committee to organize and plan the program for the year. Parent involvement is key to the success of the program.
As of September 2019, congregations are using Do This in Memory 1: Liturgical Years C/A. You can download the dates for the year 2019/2020 here

For the children who will receive the sacraments of First Confession and Communion this year, it will be an important stage in their journey of faith.
It is important that the children who receive the sacraments are well prepared. This preparation takes place at school and at home. The parents and guardians of the First Communion children meet and the preparation program is outlined – the Alive O program in the school and the Do This In Memory program in the community.
The Do This in Memory program is a church-based First Communion program. This community initiative hopes to involve the home, community and school in preparing children for this sacrament, recognizing the importance of all three. It is a way of celebrating First Communion and helps both the children and their parents. The program is run by the parents with the help of the DTIM Coordination Team.
If you would like to volunteer to help organize one of the DTIM Masses, please contact the team through the parish office.

In addition to sacramental preparation in school, the Do This in Memory program is an educational, informative, and formative program aimed at children and encouraging adult participation.
Clinical research shows that direct involvement of an adult/guardian in a child’s formative years has lasting effects. In the support of parents and guardians of the First Communion children, they first come to an information evening where the preparatory program on the topic “Remember this” takes place.
As a “Do This in Memory” as a parish program in preparation for First Communion, it focuses on the parish celebration of the Sunday Eucharist. The resources provided aim to engage all stakeholders to help them better understand, know and appreciate the Eucharist. They complement and support the work of sacramental preparation in the parish school in the parish. The program takes place once a month before First Communion and ends with the parish feast of Corpus Christi.
Parent/Guardian Participation:
The Do This In Memory Coordination Group is formed each year and is made up of parents/guardians of children who will be celebrating their First Communion. The program revolves around the participation of the children and their families in a series of special monthly Masses, the participation of the parents/guardians and children in the liturgies throughout the year, culminating in their participation in their First Communion Mass.
Participation in the coordination group is voluntary and all parents/guardians are invited to participate. The coordination group is usually around 8/10 parents who offer their services throughout the program. The program starts in autumn and ends in June.
Tasks of the coordination group:
· keeps in touch with parents and legal guardians every month by SMS or letter.
Maintains the KIDZONE in the Church (a room dedicated to First Communion children. This room changes from month to month with the children’s artwork and reflects the theme of the special Masses)
· The group coordinates the monthly special fairs
· The group coordinates the workshops for children’s activities
Throughout the program, parents/guardians are encouraged to:
· go to Mass with your child at least every Sunday of the program
· Pray at home with their children
· Read the monthly brochure with your child every month.
· talk to their children about the program
· Reflect on the celebration of this sacrament with their children
