Embassy Festival of Trees
Established in 1984, the Festival of Trees supports the ongoing operational and restoration efforts of the Embassy Theater Foundation. The festival is the organization’s largest annual fundraiser.
The lobbies of the Embassy Theater and the Indiana Hotel are transformed into a wonderland of decorated trees under the theme “The Magic of the Season”. Patrons will tour the spectacular venue to see 70 decorated trees. Admission includes visits to Santa (various dates and times) and festive entertainment on stage, including the Grande Page pipe organ and performances by youth choirs and dance groups. Attendees are encouraged to register to win tickets to the show, other goodies, and vote for their favorite trees! Also of note are the animated holiday windows along the Harrison Street building.
The organization will again offer a virtual ticketing option to share with friends, colleagues and family members who cannot attend in person, or to provide the perfect holiday backdrop for TV broadcasts at holiday celebrations. This ticket will be available for purchase on December 1st.

FORT WAYNE, Indiana (WANE) – The Embassy Theater has announced that it will host the 37th annual Festival of Trees, one of the region’s most anticipated holiday traditions, from November 24 through December 1.
Established in 1984, the Festival of Trees supports the ongoing operational and restoration efforts of the Embassy Theater Foundation. The festival is the foundation’s largest annual fundraiser.
The lobbies of the Embassy Theater and the Indiana Hotel are transformed into a wonderland of decorated trees under the theme “The Magic of the Season”. The theater said guests will tour the venue to see 65 decorated trees.
Ticket prices remain the same as 2020: $10/adult (13+), $5/teen aged 1-12, children under 1 year are free (ticket required) and $25 virtual tour (virtual ticket is available for purchase Dec. 1). Wearing masks is strongly recommended at embassy events.
Admission includes visits to Santa (various dates and times) and festive entertainment on stage, including the Grande Page pipe organ and youth choir and dance performances. Virtual ticketing options are available to share with friends, co-workers and family members who cannot attend in person, or to provide the perfect holiday backdrop for televised games at holiday celebrations.
Breakfast with Santa will take place from Friday to Sunday of the festival, the embassy said. The cost of breakfast is $30 per person (reservation required, very limited seating). Tickets for the Festival of Trees and Breakfast with Santa start Monday 1st November. Please note that the Embassy is offering additional Christmas experiences in December. FORT WAYNE, Indiana (WPTA21) – For a week a year, dozens of ornately designed and decorated Christmas trees line the historic halls of the Embassy Theater. The Festival of Trees is an annual event – the largest fundraiser for a venue hard hit financially by the COVID-19 pandemic. A typical tour during its run is a peaceful stroll admiring beautiful trees with the soft melody of Christmas music playing in the background.
Unknown to most, the Embassy Theater is filled with chaos and frenzy in the days leading up to its opening. Sponsors and decorators only have two days to install and get their tree together before it begins.
“We’ve evolved over the years to accommodate more trees, more sponsors, more donors and more decorators,” Chief Marketing Officer Carly Myers told us. “We’ve definitely hit double digit new arrivals this year – which probably explains why we have a record number of trees.”
Through sponsorships alone, the embassy has already raised over $100,000 before most tickets go on sale before and after Thanksgiving. “We’ve had a rough couple of years as a world,” she added. “And the amount of support, creativity, joy and love that went into the event from everyone in the community… Decorators, sponsors, donors, volunteers, staff, everyone – we just want to bring people back to a sense of normalcy.” ”
In the past, visitors could admire 40-60 trees showing all kinds of themes. This year there are 71. I&M sponsors the events with four living trees that children decorate. Carroll High School’s interior design class was one of them. Several students spent their weekend designing their tree using elements from Disney’s Tangled.
“We tried to find elements of it that we thought were kind of cool, aspects that the film added,” said newcomer Ellyanna Rogers. “It’s not common to write a whole essay about it in the classroom – it’s more practical.”
“I’ve always wanted to design things,” explained senior Amaya Winfree. “We changed a few things just because it looked good in our heads. But now that we’ve put it together and seen it, it makes more sense in a different way.”
Giordano’s staff decorated their tree with cheese sticks, pizza slices and dried peppers. “To be honest we had never heard of the Festival of Trees as we are new to the area,” said owner Tom Fife. “As we walked in the door, we started with a four foot tree – I don’t know what I was thinking!”
“Then I looked…holy smokes, I upgraded right away!” he continued. “How could we take this tree and send out the image of Giordano? Our theme for our tree is: Merry Christmas!”
While some sponsors choose to design their own tree, they may also enlist the services of decorators. Returning designers who have a knack for creatively weaving a brand into the theme or creating something entirely new themselves. Scott Hermance is one of those people.
“In the past I’ve been a three-time People’s Choice winner,” he said. “I won for my Cinderella tree, my 80’s tree and my ‘Mary, Mary, how does your garden grow’ tree.” This year he has worked with Berne Workwear and miniature versions of their clothing line, logo and cardinals integrated for the state of Indiana. “It’s chaotic here. People started arriving at 9:30 a.m. to come in and decorate,” Hermance described Sunday afternoon. “People are very passionate and show their best.”
Dozens of other unique designs and stories are still scattered throughout the Embassy Theatre. “With all of the support and all of the beauty at this facility … we just want people to come and experience it,” Myers said. “We just want people to have fun this year with the theme, which is really the magic of the season.”
ABC21 is a proud sponsor of the event. Our “Breaking Morning News, Coffee!” tree, designed by Cindy Friend, is located near the Embassy’s entrance. She integrated faces of our morning team, camera gear and of course coffee.
The Festival of Trees opens to the public on Wednesday. Tickets are $10 for adults (ages 13+) and $5 for children (ages 1-12). It runs until December 1st.
