Emma Elizabeth Hill of Kennett Square, PA, died suddenly on Saturday, February 19, at the age of 16 at Philadelphia Children’s Hospital after a short, serious illness. She was with her loving mother and father at the time of her death.
Born in 2005 in Reston, VA, Emma was the daughter of Brian T. and Amy C. Hill and sister of Tyler T. Hill.
Emma was a distinguished sophomore at Unionville High School. She loved to swim and was a dedicated member of both the Kennett YMCA Sea Dragons and the UHS swim teams. In her free time, Emma was a lifeguard and taught young children to swim at the Y. As a younger child and teenager, Emma excelled on the ballfield while being coached by her father in URA softball.
During Emma’s brief illness, she was strong and determined to get better, and in no way let her health issues define her. During the months that Emma had 3 hospitalizations and a difficult road to recovery, Emma continued to swim competitively, got straight A’s, met her first boyfriend (Ernesto), celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas with her grandparents, began learning to drive, and stayed one faithful and loving friend. She celebrated her 16th birthday with her closest friends at a slumber party with very little sleep.
Beautiful in every sense of the word, Emma was loved in the Kennett Square community and beyond. She worked hard at everything she tried to achieve but always with a happy, exuberant attitude and a beautiful smile. Above all, her absolute friendliness and warm heart made Emma our sweet girl.
In addition to her parents and brother, Emma is survived by grandparents David L. and Jane F. Mordan of Johnstown PA, and Carl E. and Linda F. Hill of Reading PA; her uncle David Mordan and his wife Kimberly, and aunt Amy (Hill) Chiarelli and husband John. She is also survived by her loving cousins Ashley and Jessica Mordan, Derek MacDonald (wife, Korrie) and Andrew, Olivia and Jack Chiarelli.
You are invited to visit Emma’s family and friends on Saturday, February 26 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Viewings take place at the Kuzo Funeral Home, 250 West State Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348. The Christian funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 28 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 212 Meredith Street, Kennett Square. PA 19348. Burial will be at Union Hill Cemetery at 424 North Union Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348. A luncheon celebrating Emma’s life will follow at Willowdale Chapel, 675 Unionville Road, Kennett Square, PA 19348. Guests are asked to wear masks while indoors.

Valera Emma Hill, 88, of Mohnton, Cumru Twp., Berks Co., PA, died Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Rittenhouse Village in Muhlenberg.
Born February 14, 1929 in Robeson Twp., she was the daughter of the late Irvin F. Seifrit and the late Emma E. (Seifrit) Seifrit. She was the widow of Floyd I. Hill, who died on November 9, 1989.
Valera was employed by the former Wilson Products in Reading, PA. She was a member of Robeson Lutheran Church in Plowville, PA.
Surviving are 2 sons, Harold D. Hill by Robeson Twp.; Kevin M. Hill, husband of Ann of Robeson Twp.; 1 daughter, Julie A., wife of Paul Lisney of Cumru Twp.; and 1 brother, Ammon F. Seifrit, husband of Guyula of Interlachen, FL. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Zachary, Rachel and Ethan; 1 great-grandson, Brayden; and 3 step-grandchildren, Julia, Aidan and Kieran.
Valera is predeceased from 2 brothers, John H. Huyette and Daniel H. Huyette.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11:00 am at Robeson Lutheran Church, 3520 Plow Rd. Mohnton, PA 19540. A visitation will be held at the church one hour before the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Burial will take place in Robeson Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Berks County Animal Rescue League at 58 Kennel Rd. Birdsboro, PA 19508.
