The bike is powered by a 135ci JIMS131 twin-cam engine tuned by T-Man Performance to produce an amazing 400hp (that’s more than a new Toyota Supra and a Mercedes-AMG CLA45). Koiso’s Harley-Davidson monster had a top speed of almost 194 miles per hour without a fairing.
And to kick things up a notch, Koiso’s team engineered a streamlined fairing kit that helped the team hit 260 mph over a mile at the Bonneville Speed Trials.
Before that, however, renowned racer Cal Rayborn rode a Harley-Davidson Sportster Streamliner and set a new land speed record of 265 mph on the same Bonneville Salt Flats as Koiso’s team did years later.
Not to be outdone, drag racer Dave Campos rode a Hell-born Harley-Davidson equipped with two 1500cc Harley-Davidson V-twin engines plugged into a seven-meter bike dubbed the Easyriders Streamliner , to a world record of 322 miles per hour, a record that stood unbroken for 16 years.

The FXDR 114 combines the relentless power of the Milwaukee-Eight® 114 engine with liberal use of new weight-saving aluminum and composite components. Every aspect of handling and performance is reinforced.

Less than a month after announcing plans for future products in new brand categories and a commitment to continuing to evolve its heavy-duty touring and cruiser models, the Motor Company introduces the FXDR 114 as the tenth Harley-Davidson model based on the Softail® platform .
Focus on weight reduction
The aluminum swingarm achieves a weight reduction of 10.2 pounds (13.8 pounds versus 24 pounds or 43 percent less) over a steel Softail swingarm housing a 240mm rear tire. Because unsprung weight (weight below the hanger) has a significant impact on rear suspension performance, this is further enhanced with a lightweight 18-inch diameter aluminum disc rear wheel. The 19-inch forged aluminum Ace front wheel is a lightweight design with very thin spokes. The FXDR 114’s seat and tail section are supported by a subframe made from welded aluminum tubing, and the tail section is composite. This replaces a steel subframe, steel rear fender and aluminum fender supports used on other Softail models, saving approximately 7 pounds of weight. Front and rear fenders are made of lightweight composite material.
Styled on the Strip
The FXDR communicates its commitment to absolute performance through a visual design inspired by the drag strip, where the application of torque to the pavement is refined in its execution.
“The look of the FXDR 114 expresses its performance potential and highlights the technical features that set it apart from the rest of the Softail lineup,” said Brad Richards, vice president of styling and design. “The drag bike influence is strong with the sloping and inverted front end, the massive intake and exhaust, the proportional contrast between the wheels and the truncated tail section. But we’ve made sure that purely technical elements like the aluminum swingarm, fully integrated digital instrumentation in the rider controls and the exposed external suspension adjuster are also highlighted and help define this bike’s mission, which is pure performance, not just straight-line performance . ”
A speedscreen frames the LED headlight and helps break up wind, while a stretched 4.4-gallon fuel tank, exclusive to the FXDR 114, lengthens the bike’s profile. A racing-inspired chin cowl hides much of the oil cooler. The tail section is cut short drag bike/stunter style to expose the 240mm rear tire. A solo seat transitions seamlessly into the tail section. A cover on top of the tail section can be removed to reveal a storage compartment in the subframe.
A molded composite rear fender is shaped to hug the tires and move with them through the suspension area, becoming almost invisible when the FXDR 114 is in motion. A rear lighting module and license plate bracket are attached to an aluminum spar that mounts to the left side of the swingarm, dramatically exposing the right side of the rear wheel. Finished in gloss black and satin black, the front and rear wheels are adorned with luminous “bolt heads” and laser-etched orange graphics in the rims.
Dynamic chassis
A strong and stiff Softail chassis tuned for responsive handling rewards confident drivers with exciting agility as they navigate twisting back roads and through tight city traffic. The FXDR 114 features Softail monoshock rear suspension with a single coilover shock with internal free-piston technology and an optimized frame-to-swingarm angle for increased travel and responsiveness. The shock features an external hydraulic preload adjustment knob to allow the rider to quickly and easily dial in optimal suspension performance for the prevailing load and conditions. Inverted 43mm forks stiffen the front end for improved response to steering inputs. Internal single-cartridge fork damping technology and a triple-rate spring respond quickly to inputs to keep the front wheel planted for improved braking and handling performance. The FXDR 114 offers more lean angles than any other Softail model—32.6 degrees to the left and 32.8 degrees to the right.
Dual 300mm front disc brakes offer powerful stopping power with less leverage. A confidence-inspiring anti-lock braking system (ABS) is standard on the FXDR 114. The high-performance Michelin® Scorcher® 11 front tires (120 mm) and rear tires (240 mm) contribute to optimized handling and braking performance. Secured by the low solo seat, the rider reaches over the tank in an athletic position. Information is presented on a compact digital display located within the speed screen.
Milwaukee Eight Muscle
The FXDR 114 features the most powerful engine offered in the Softail chassis, a Milwaukee-Eight 114 V-Twin rated for up to 119 ft. lb. tuned at 3500 rpm (US model). The shape of the forward-facing air intake is inspired by the world champion Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines dragbikes and is designed to improve airflow into the engine. The exposed air filter uses a new synthetic media that does not require oiling. A new 2-into-1 exhaust is tuned to emit a throaty rumble and shaped to maximize lean angle. The advanced four-valve cylinder head design, dual knock sensors and precise oil cooling enable a 10.0:1 compression ratio for strong torque delivery – and exhilarating acceleration – from idle to full throttle. The engine is rigidly mounted to further stiffen a Softail chassis that’s engineered to respond precisely to steering and braking inputs. Dual counterweights suppress primary vibrations at idle for improved ride comfort.

The sloping USD front with massive intake and exhaust and the shortened tail section are all deliberately designed to stand out from the rest of the Softail lineup. This burly stern even has a small trunk (nothing huge though) to toss in some junk for your cruising needs. At the front, a slick front-facing LED Daymaker setup is surrounded by a minimalist fascia that hides a functional digital dashboard.

Harley has recently started giving up so much chrome for blacked out engines and matte finishes, and they don’t look half bad. This FXDR is no different. This power cruiser sports a handful of weight-reducing elements, including an aluminum swingarm and lots of carbon-fiber parts, including the front and rear fenders.
A stretched 4.4-gallon fuel tank, exclusive to the FXDR 114, lengthens the bike’s profile, while a racing-inspired chin guard hides much of the oil cooler. The rear tire is a massive 240-section tire matched to a 19-inch front tire attached to a thin-spoke Ace alloy rim. The rear fender is connected to the massive tire, which moves with it through the suspension area, making it almost invisible while driving.

COMPETITION
The xDiavel was first presented at the EICMA Motor Show in Milan 2015 and attracted all eyes for a trippy show. Long and low, with sleek and sexy lines, forward footpegs and a low seat height, this bike was something completely new from the Italian company, known worldwide for the combination of impeccable design and high-performance machines. Something like moving purists to a realm with more substance and less bitterness.
The premium S model takes things even further with its contrast-cut machined belt covers (similar in appearance to the Scramblers) and wheels, daytime running lights, DLC-coated forks, Brembo M50 front brake calipers, a custom seat, parts with machine-finished highlights and much more that really makes the X shine.
The DVT setup offers the best of both worlds: a flatter and more linear performance character without sacrificing performance. It charges with a peppy 95 pound-feet of torque that hits at 5000 rpm and peaks at 156 hp at 9500 rpm, where the red line is near the 10000 rpm mark. In conjunction with a smooth-shifting six-speed gearbox, the top speed is said to be in excess of 260 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds. Nine new Softails, the Street Rod, and two from the Sportster series – Iron 1200 and Forty-Eight Special. With another 88 to follow, Harley has registered three new names for its new motorcycle models: “Bronx”, “48X” and “Pan America”.
However, the latest to hit the streets now is an all-new Softail model that gets a new engine and chassis architecture – the FXDR 114. With the most powerful engine among its siblings, the FXDR also looks like the fast kid. Swooping lines, massive rear tires, longer rake all make it the best handler in the Softail lineup.

The MGX is able to transport the rider’s soul into “a beautiful and emotional experience” composed of “adventure, freedom and discovery” (and yes, that’s Moto Guzzi speaking – we’d have lost the exaggeration, but the feeling gets to the point), the MGX-21 is a fun combination of power (that 1,400c twin transverse engine packs a lot of punch) and exuberant beauty.
6. Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 Vaquero
The Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 Vaquero is not the high-tech bike. It has cruise control and a decent stereo, but if you want bells and whistles you’ll be disappointed. It’s not the fastest either. And while the fit and finish are okay, it’s far from a beauty queen. So why is it one of the best excavators out there? Because as motorcycle.com writes, his “dollar store demeanor” is the whole point. Not everyone wants to spend a small fortune on a bike — many people would happily go without GPS if that meant they could get a decent bagger for just $16,799. Also, by paring down the accessories to the bare minimum, it has done wonders for its reliability – because the fewer things it has, the fewer things that can go wrong. If you want a simple digger that gets the job done but won’t break the bank, it’s ideal.
7. BMW K 1600 B
As motorcyclecruiser.com writes, BMW doesn’t do things by halves. The proof? The BMW K 1600 B, a sleek, powerful bagger with all the style and comfort you’d expect from the German giant. Shift Assistant makes shifting between gears as effortless as a manual transmission can get. Speed and traction control, ABS, ride modes and electronic suspension adjustment come standard, as does the raw dynamics of its beautiful sloping lines. The main attraction, of course, has to be the insanely powerful, insanely smooth, liquid-cooled 1,649cc inline-six mill engine. With 60 horsepower and 129 pound-feet of torque, this is a bike that’ll get you places fast.
8. Moto Guzzi California 1400 Touring
If you want something more classic than your typical bagger look no further than the Moto Guzzi California 1400 Touring. With its luscious accents, sweeping curves and contemporary details, it’s a head-turner. But this isn’t a case of style over substance: the features are stunning (expect MGCT traction control, dual-channel ABS, ride-by-wire throttle control – basically, you’ll find everything you need here) and the The 90 Degree -V-Twin engine is capable of producing a very impressive 78.86 pound-feet of torque at the rear wheel.
9. Indian chief elite
Indian makes our second appearance on our list with the Chieftan Elite, a high-performance bagger with more comfort and amenities than a five-star resort. The peppy Thunder Stroke 111 engine delivers 73 horsepower and 119 lb.-ft of torque – enough to satisfy even the most power-hungry biker. As for the style, well, to say it’s impressive would be an understatement. The Elite is a real beast – if you want your diggers to look more like tanks than bikes, you’ll love it.

Harley-Davidson has replaced the spirit of the venerable V-Rod drag-strip king with the new Softail FXDR, the first Harley with clip-on handlebars. It looks and feels similar, right down to the riding stance with hands and feet forward.

First driving impression
I was fortunate to be the first Australian to ride the FXDR.
It was just a brief preview ride around the streets of Milwaukee, but I’m hoping to put it through a much fuller test at the world premiere in Australia early next month.

Right from the start the bike feels sturdy and powerful.
It hammers off the line with mind-blowing torque, almost 50% more than the V-Rod, but it doesn’t have the same drag-strip top-end hiss.
I love the drag-inspired air snorkel, which delivers a loud and proud induction roar to match the two-in-one exhaust, which sounds quiet at idle but still has a full tone at high rpm.
It looks great in the “Flesh” with its creative mix of finishes. You can also buy an aftermarket exhaust with a titanium and carbon fiber finish.
stop power
Go is adjusted by stopping power.
On several occasions, I would perform panic stops and just grab as much front and rear brakes as I could.
The braking power of the two large front discs is almost breakneck.
There was a bit of fork diving, but the rear wheel didn’t lift off at all.
With a 120-piece front tire and twice that in the rear, there’s excellent grip and no ABS action I could feel.
The wide rear tire is the same as the Breakout, so it has excellent traction and lateral stability, but makes cornering a bit difficult.
It’s closer to the new Fat Bob than the Breakout.
Thanks to the slanted exhaust shape, the inclination is 32.6° on the left and 32.8° on the right. It’s the best of Harley’s big twins, beaten only by the Street Rod (37.3° right, 40.2° left).
While the seat is firm and comfortable, the seating position is only good for short rides.
The hidden rear shock is short and bangs over the bumps, but the inverted forks with dual flex-valve feel reasonably compliant without jackhammer effect.
The small digital gauges are mounted above the handlebars and, like most other Softails, have odometer, two-trip, range, RPM and clock displays with a toggle switch on the left switch cluster.
They’re easy to read even in broad daylight and sit nice and high for quick reference without having to take your eyes off the road.
High quality finish
The entire bike exudes a high quality finish, from the full LED lighting with Daymakler headlight to the new lightweight swingarm.
In fact, Harley engineer Jeff Richlen points out that it’s a shame that the swingarm is partially obscured since it has such smooth welds.
He says the heavy-duty bike company has gotten unconventional in its approach to weight-saving on the new Softails, particularly on this model.
“We’re not really a heavy motorcycle company anymore,” he joked.
The swingarm saves 8 kg, but the bike still weighs 289 kg dry.
The FXDR also has a new tank shape for Harley.
“Most Harley tanks are the same for size reasons, but this one is a completely different design,” says Jeff.
While the bike was designed as a solo seat machine, you can remove the rear fairing and install an optional seat and footpegs.
It’s available in Vivid Black, Black Denim, Industrial Gray Denim, Wicked Red Denim, Bonneville Salt Denim and Rawhide Denim, but we’re not sure Australia will get all the colors.

Moto Guzzi took the opportunity to strip off all the touring weight and accessories and give the engine some fun.
The bike is so amazingly fast because it’s a stripped down, stripped down version of the California 1400 Touring and weighs just under 670 pounds. This allows the 79.2 lb-ft of torque and 87.5 hp ample clearance to get the rear wheel into the tarmac, and the bike itself launches down the road pretty quickly!
#9: 2015-2022 Suzuki Boulevard M109R B.O.S.S.
0-60mph: 3.65 seconds
When your bike is called “The BOSS,” that’s a statement that takes a lot of grunt to keep up. Well, with the Blacked Out Suzuki Special (B.O.S.S.) take on the instantly classic boulevard, Suzuki goes the distance to back up their talk! The Boulevard line of bikes has earned a reputation for not sniffing haughtily, and the Boulevard M109R B.O.S.S is the king of this model line.
Borrowing engineers from their sport and racing departments, Suzuki tuned the 1,783cc V-twin monster in the BOSS to tear up the pavement with 105 hp and 97 lb-ft of torque. It also pretends to roar like Thor as it speeds by.

#8: Yamaha XV1900A Star Raider from 2008 to 2017
0-60mph: 3.6 seconds
Coming from the early 2000s, Yamaha wanted to capture the emerging sport cruiser segment that decades earlier was reserved for only a tiny fraction of the rider population. They took their XV1900A Star Roadliner, an excellent touring bike that still crushes miles to this day, removed the windshield, saddlebags, rear passenger backrest and lowered the seat to almost bobber height.
Front forks were raked harder and lengthened, and a 210mm-wide rear tire was pulled in to get power out of the 1,854cc V-twin. With 123 lb-ft of torque from this bad boy, you could spin the rear wheel badly if you drop the clutch too hard. However, if you had the perfect connection, the Star Raider would leap forward, promptly followed by the driver’s roar of excitement.
Unfortunately, the Star Raider is becoming increasingly difficult to find on the used market and a well maintained one in good condition will cost you a small fortune.
#7: 2002-2006 Harley-Davidson VRSCA V-Rod
0-60mph: 3.59 seconds
The early 2000’s were both good and bad times for Harley Davidson. On the plus side, they saw a jump in sales after the lackluster late 1990s. They were also involved in flat track and drag bike racing teams and this resulted in the VR-1000 Revolution engine, a prototype super cruiser bike. On the other hand, the Harley-Davidson experiment with Buell Motorcycles as a sub-brand has already gone awry, as the sporty cruisers and racing bikes were not well received by customers.
From the VR-1000 engine, however, Harley Davidson built the now legendary VRSCA V-Rod, a 1,131 cc V-twin engine that produces 115 hp and 84 lb-ft of torque. The real glory of the machine, however, was its near-endless scope for tuning and building. Already powerful enough to earn 5th place on this list, this generation VRSCA V-Rod soon became known as the engine you wanted in your drag bike and is still an incredibly powerful engine today the drag strip.
#6: Honda Gold Wing Valkyrie 2014-2015

What do you get when you take one of the most popular long-distance tourers of all time, strip it of its touring gear, give it a muscle cruiser profile and sell it to the mass market? The Honda Gold Wing Valkyrie, of course!
The Valkyrie packed a flat-six boxer under its massive front end, which was unusual on this roster of V-twins and thunderous triples. 117 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque moved the 700 lbs (wet) bike fast and it could blast towards 60 mph at about the same speed as most 600cc sportbikes at the time could.
Although they weren’t sold for long in the US, they were well received by customers, so it’s not too difficult to find a used Valkyrie tucked away in the “For Sale” section of your local auto and bike dealer website.
#5: 2010-2017 Triumph Rocket III Roadster
0-60mph: 3.3 seconds
Leave it to the Brits to show the US how to do it correct! Introduced in 2010, the first version of the Rocket III Roadster was an absolute powerhouse of a bike. At 2,294cc in an inline triple, producing 146 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, it was the largest and most powerful cruiser ever to come from Triumph Motorcycles.
The only downside to the first generation Rocket III is that at 800 lbs (wet) it was a bit of a fat bike. Yet, as the muscle car adage goes, “There’s no substitute for displacement,” and the equivalent of 140 cubic inches at the command of your right wrist proves the point.
#4: 2020-2022 Livewire ONE
0-60mph: 3 seconds
The Livewire first appeared in 2019, the first project of the old American motorcycle company Harley-Davidson. In mid-2021, the manufacturer announced that Livewire would be its own brand and that its first offering would be the Livewire ONE, which was essentially the same bike as before.
The Livewire is powered by the company’s “Revelation” engine, which produces 100 hp and 84 ft-lb of torque. That doesn’t sound like much…until you realize that all that power and torque is available at 0 rpm. The moment your right wrist turns, the Livewire gets you on the road faster than many sportbikes out there.
#3: Triumph Rocket 3R 2020-2022
0-60mph: 2.75 seconds
Triumph’s second generation Rocket III, this time stylized as the Rocket 3, was launched in 2019 to great acclaim. A complete evolution of its first generation brother, the new Rocket 3 GT is lighter, more powerful and incredibly a full half second faster than its older brother.
This results from the gigantic in-line triple with 2,458 cc displacement – the largest in a production motorcycle to date. This new engine fires out 165 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque that makes it feel like you’ve got your fingertips on the handlebars as this beast hurls itself to 60 mph. And because of that high power motor it doesn’t seem to want to obey the laws of physics as it just keeps accelerating until those laws catch up or your right wrist relaxes!
#2: 2019-2022 Ducati Diavel 1260 S
0-60mph: 2.6 seconds
Ducati says the Diavel (which means ‘devil’ in Bolognese dialect) got its name from its looks. Less a sporty cruiser and more of a cruiser body style placed over a monstrous sportbike, the Diavel will shred its rear tire at the mere mention of the accelerator. And considering this is the third generation of this insane bike, with a 1,262 Testatretta high-angle V-twin engine that produces “only” 162 hp and 95 lb-ft of torque.
We’re putting the only one in quotes because this Italian devil weighs 487 pounds (dry). This results in a power-to-weight ratio of 0.33 hp per kilogram of weight. Compare that to a supercar like the Ferrari 488 which has 0.23 horsepower per pound of weight and you can see why this Ducati absolutely flies!
#1: 2009-2020 Yamaha VMAX
0-60mph: 2.5 seconds
Introduced in 2009 and discontinued in 2020, nothing released since then has beaten the Yamaha VMAX. It’s even in the name, since in physics the maximum speed of an object is given as V-max. It doesn’t have the biggest engine at 1,679cc in a V-four. It doesn’t have the most torque at 123 lb-ft. It doesn’t weigh the least at 694 lbs.
However, what it does have is the most mechanical power at pretty much exactly 200hp. Combined with the torque to get the bike moving, this mechanical horsepower propels this absolute power cruiser through the legal speed limit on many freeways in just 2.5 seconds. It’s hard to believe that this humble cruiser can literally outperform the latest 1,000+ horsepower hypercars.

The bike’s only mechanical tweak is a one-piece handlebar fitted with a “Fat Ape” riser kit. The new unit is a replacement for the stock clip-ons.
At the heart of this limited edition FXDR 114 sits the same (unprocessed) Milwaukee-Eight 114 1,868cc V-twin powerplant that delivers a maximum power of 90 hp at 4,500 rpm and 160 Nm of peak torque, which is available at 3,500 rpm uses .
In terms of pricing, it has been listed with a retail price of £18,345 (16.97 lakh). For the record, it’s the same price as some other official paint jobs available for the production bike. It’s slightly more expensive than the base variant of the bike, which is priced at £17,995 (16.61 lakh).
While this limited-edition model may not be the most radical design in terms of factory habits, it’s certainly a good initiative to keep customers busy in the current testing times.

The 4,177-recall population consists of 1,141 2021-2022 Harley-Davidson XL1200X, 2,868 2021-2022 Harley-Davidson XL883N and 168 2021 Harley-Davidson XL1200NS models produced between Aug. 23, 2021, and Feb. 3, 2022.

Per National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-160, the safety hazard arises from access to owner/user information and the consequences of improper motorcycle maintenance.
“The absence of the brake fluid warning label on the reservoir cover can lead to an improper maintenance procedure if the owner does not have access to or consult the owner’s manual (which contains brake fluid specifications). Improper maintenance of the braking system could, over time, degrade the performance of the braking system and increase the risk of an accident,” the report said.
The remedy is simple: owners will receive replacement decals and instructions on how to attach them to the bin cover in the mail. Alternatively, if the owner wishes, they can take their motorcycle to a Harley-Davidson franchised dealership to have the decal applied.
Dealers should be notified of the recall last week, and owners are scheduled to begin receiving notifications and decals beginning April 1.

Harley Davidson will be discontinuing the Street Bob, the Heritage Classic, the Deluxe and the Fat Bob because of the upcoming BS6 emission norms.

Harley Davidson will not update its entire range of motorcycles to meet upcoming BS6 emissions standards. Instead, they will be discontinuing some of their Softail bikes, including the Street Bob, Heritage Classic, Deluxe and Fat Bob.

The Harley Davidson Fat Bab is particularly popular and there is good news about it too. Harley Davidson India has plans to bring back the Fat Bob, but it won’t appear until next year powered by the larger Milwaukee-Eight 114ci engine.
Once the BS6 emissions standards come into effect from April 2020, Harley Davidson India will offer the Low Rider, the Fat Boy and the soon to be launched Low Rider S. Of these, when Harley launches the Low Rider S in India it will be the only one powered by the smaller Milwaukee-Eight 107ci (1,745cc) V-twin engine. The engine delivers a maximum torque of 144 Nm, which is already present at 3,000 rpm.

The Low Rider S will then be the new entry into the Harley Davidson Softail family. The other two bikes – the Low Rider and the Fat Boy – are powered by the larger 114ci (1,868cc) Milwaukee-Eight engine also found on Harley’s touring line of bikes. Thanks to the additional capacity of the engine, it delivers a maximum torque of 156 Nm, 12 Nm more than the 107.

In India, the price of the Low Rider starts at Rs 13.69 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.23 lakh for the two-tone custom color scheme. With the BS6 update, you can expect prices to increase by Rs on this model. 30,000. Meanwhile, the Fat Boy 114 has been priced between Rs 20.04 lakh and Rs 20.59 lakh. You can expect a similar price increase for the Fat Boy as well. The Low Rider S will sit between those two bikes and you can expect its prices to be in the Rs 17-18 range.

Once those are sold out it will be the end of the Harley Sportster. All of the Street iterations have never fared well in spite of having been around since 2014. So the Street 500, Street 750, and Street Rod have all been axed in 2021.

The Harley Sportster has been around for over 60 years – that’s incredible when you think about it. Because the aftermarket has delved deeply into the Sportster over the years, there are probably more products out there than for any other bike. The first Sportster will be the Iron 1200, followed shortly by the Iron 883 and Forty-Eight. Once these sell out, it’s the end of the Harley Sportster.

Honda’s V-Four bikes are on the way out, meaning the VFR800F, VFR800X Crossrunner or VFR1200X will be available here, but not for long. These will see their demise because Honda chose not to bring them to Euro5 specs. Bye!

Moto Guzzi took the opportunity to strip off all the touring weight and accessories and give the engine some fun.
The bike is so amazingly fast because it’s a stripped down, stripped down version of the California 1400 Touring and weighs just under 670 pounds. This allows the 79.2 lb-ft of torque and 87.5 hp ample clearance to get the rear wheel into the tarmac, and the bike itself launches down the road pretty quickly!
#9: 2015-2022 Suzuki Boulevard M109R B.O.S.S.
0-60mph: 3.65 seconds
When your bike is called “The BOSS,” that’s a statement that takes a lot of grunt to keep up. Well, with the Blacked Out Suzuki Special (B.O.S.S.) take on the instantly classic boulevard, Suzuki goes the distance to back up their talk! The Boulevard line of bikes has earned a reputation for not sniffing haughtily, and the Boulevard M109R B.O.S.S is the king of this model line.
Borrowing engineers from their sport and racing departments, Suzuki tuned the 1,783cc V-twin monster in the BOSS to tear up the pavement with 105 hp and 97 lb-ft of torque. It also pretends to roar like Thor as it speeds by.
Part thug, part cruiser, all power. Just like a muscle bike should be!
#8: Yamaha XV1900A Star Raider from 2008 to 2017
0-60mph: 3.6 seconds
Coming from the early 2000s, Yamaha wanted to capture the emerging sport cruiser segment that decades earlier was reserved for only a tiny fraction of the rider population. They took their XV1900A Star Roadliner, an excellent touring bike that still crushes miles to this day, removed the windshield, saddlebags, rear passenger backrest and lowered the seat to almost bobber height.
Front forks were raked harder and lengthened, and a 210mm-wide rear tire was pulled in to get power out of the 1,854cc V-twin. With 123 lb-ft of torque from this bad boy, you could spin the rear wheel badly if you drop the clutch too hard. However, if you had the perfect connection, the Star Raider would leap forward, promptly followed by the driver’s roar of excitement.
Unfortunately, the Star Raider is becoming increasingly difficult to find on the used market and a well maintained one in good condition will cost you a small fortune.
#7: 2002-2006 Harley-Davidson VRSCA V-Rod
0-60mph: 3.59 seconds
The early 2000’s were both good and bad times for Harley Davidson. On the plus side, they saw a jump in sales after the lackluster late 1990s. They were also involved in flat track and drag bike racing teams and this resulted in the VR-1000 Revolution engine, a prototype super cruiser bike. On the other hand, the Harley-Davidson experiment with Buell Motorcycles as a sub-brand has already gone awry, as the sporty cruisers and racing bikes were not well received by customers.
From the VR-1000 engine, however, Harley Davidson built the now legendary VRSCA V-Rod, a 1,131 cc V-twin engine that produces 115 hp and 84 lb-ft of torque. The real glory of the machine, however, was its near-endless scope for tuning and building. Already powerful enough to earn 5th place on this list, this generation VRSCA V-Rod soon became known as the engine you wanted in your drag bike and is still an incredibly powerful engine today the drag strip.
#6: Honda Gold Wing Valkyrie 2014-2015
0-60mph: 3.4 seconds
What do you get when you take one of the most popular long-distance tourers of all time, strip it of its touring gear, give it a muscle cruiser profile and sell it to the mass market? The Honda Gold Wing Valkyrie, of course!
The Valkyrie packed a flat-six boxer under its massive front end, which was unusual on this roster of V-twins and thunderous triples. 117 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque moved the 700 lbs (wet) bike fast and it could blast towards 60 mph at about the same speed as most 600cc sportbikes at the time could.
Although they weren’t sold for long in the US, they were well received by customers, so it’s not too difficult to find a used Valkyrie tucked away in the “For Sale” section of your local auto and bike dealer website.
#5: 2010-2017 Triumph Rocket III Roadster
0-60mph: 3.3 seconds
Leave it to the Brits to show the US how to do it correct! Introduced in 2010, the first version of the Rocket III Roadster was an absolute powerhouse of a bike. At 2,294cc in an inline triple, producing 146 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, it was the largest and most powerful cruiser ever to come from Triumph Motorcycles.
The only downside to the first generation Rocket III is that at 800 lbs (wet) it was a bit of a fat bike. Yet, as the muscle car adage goes, “There’s no substitute for displacement,” and the equivalent of 140 cubic inches at the command of your right wrist proves the point.
#4: 2020-2022 Livewire ONE
0-60mph: 3 seconds
The Livewire first appeared in 2019, the first project of the old American motorcycle company Harley-Davidson. In mid-2021, the manufacturer announced that Livewire would be its own brand and that its first offering would be the Livewire ONE, which was essentially the same bike as before.
The Livewire is powered by the company’s “Revelation” engine, which produces 100 hp and 84 ft-lb of torque. That doesn’t sound like much…until you realize that all that power and torque is available at 0 rpm. The moment your right wrist turns, the Livewire gets you on the road faster than many sportbikes out there.
#3: Triumph Rocket 3R 2020-2022
0-60mph: 2.75 seconds
Triumph’s second generation Rocket III, this time stylized as the Rocket 3, was launched in 2019 to great acclaim. A complete evolution of its first generation brother, the new Rocket 3 GT is lighter, more powerful and incredibly a full half second faster than its older brother.
This results from the gigantic in-line triple with 2,458 cc displacement – the largest in a production motorcycle to date. This new engine fires out 165 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque that makes it feel like you’ve got your fingertips on the handlebars as this beast hurls itself to 60 mph. And because of that high power motor it doesn’t seem to want to obey the laws of physics as it just keeps accelerating until those laws catch up or your right wrist relaxes!
#2: 2019-2022 Ducati Diavel 1260 S
0-60mph: 2.6 seconds
Ducati says the Diavel (which means ‘devil’ in Bolognese dialect) got its name from its looks. Less a sporty cruiser and more of a cruiser body style placed over a monstrous sportbike, the Diavel will shred its rear tire at the mere mention of the accelerator. And considering this is the third generation of this insane bike, with a 1,262 Testatretta high-angle V-twin engine that produces “only” 162 hp and 95 lb-ft of torque.
We’re putting the only one in quotes because this Italian devil weighs 487 pounds (dry). This results in a power-to-weight ratio of 0.33 hp per kilogram of weight. Compare that to a supercar like the Ferrari 488 which has 0.23 horsepower per pound of weight and you can see why this Ducati absolutely flies!
#1: 2009-2020 Yamaha VMAX
0-60mph: 2.5 seconds
Introduced in 2009 and discontinued in 2020, nothing released since then has beaten the Yamaha VMAX. It’s even in the name, since in physics the maximum speed of an object is given as V-max. It doesn’t have the biggest engine at 1,679cc in a V-four. It doesn’t have the most torque at 123 lb-ft. It doesn’t weigh the least at 694 lbs.
However, what it does have is the most mechanical power at pretty much exactly 200hp. Combined with the torque to get the bike moving, this mechanical horsepower propels this absolute power cruiser through the legal speed limit on many freeways in just 2.5 seconds. It’s hard to believe that this humble cruiser can literally outperform the latest 1,000+ horsepower hypercars.

According to the EPA release, though, the new 107 produces 92.53 horsepower (69kw) @ 5020 rpm, and the 114 produces 100.57 horsepower (75kw) @ 5020 rpm for the 114.

In the first segment of this week, senior editor Nic de Sena drives the BMW K 1600 GT. This is the sporty Bagger version of BMW’s K series, these are the models with the fantastic 6 cylinder engine. The GT has been given a little makeover for 2023 and Nic gives us his take.
In the second segment, I chat with one of my all-time heroes – three-time world racing champion “Fast” Freddie Spencer. I’ll do my best not to come across as too much of a fanboy here, but honestly it’s going to be difficult!
In my humble opinion, Spencer is a contender for the GOAT – greatest ever. Sure, his career has been a little shorter than some, and his championship tally falls behind Lawson, Doohan, Rossi and, of course, Marquez. But at that time, Freddie was literally changing the way motorcycles were ridden. 30 years before Marc Marquez, Freddie could slide the front wheel, turn after turn, lap after lap, to spin the bike faster than anyone else. Freddie took completely different lines and was able to open the throttle so early that he could accelerate anyone out of a corner.
In modern times, of course, Freddie is the chairman of the FIM MotoGP Stewards body. This is the judging panel for all three classes of Grand Prix racing. I’ve spoken to Freddie about his role there and while he’s not able to talk about specific riders, teams or events due to contractual reasons with Dorna and the FIM, his explanation of the role is still interesting to listen to. It’s a tough job and honestly I wouldn’t want to do it!
In any case, Freddie’s new book, Feel, is available on Amazon – I would highly recommend you read it, whether you’re a fan of Freddie or not, whether you’re interested in racing or not; Every driver can learn something from their mental approach.
