Posts: 4 MB 5500 Black Death I’m new to mud engines and duck boats in general. Looking for my first duck boat and mud motor. I found a guy selling a 2013 Mud Buddy 5500 Black Death with about 90 hours of mileage for about $5500. Can anyone tell me anything about these engines? HP? Would it push a 17-18 foot boat fairly well? Would it also be a good engine? Thanks for the time and any advice is welcome!

Location: SE Bama Subject: MB 5500 Black Death Yes it will push a 17-18ft boat just fine but I wouldn’t put it on a Ranger bass boat. Lol… Dueling carbs can be a bit of a bitch though. Which boat do you want to put it on?

Location: West Monroe, LA Subject: MB 5500 Black Death No, not on a 5500. The 5500 is a 45mag with a Mikuni. The 7000 is the two carb one, and I’m pretty sure I saw duals on a 6000 at one point, but it could have just been an add-on.

Location: SE Bama Subject: MB 5500 Black Death Yes. Well if that’s the case then you need to do some reading because there really is no comparison between these two boats. Use the search button here and read. Or google your question and type Mud Motor Talk after the question. You will find plenty of reading material.
Much luck!

Posts: 4 Re: MB 5500 Black Death Yes. I’ve read a few things here. Seems to be a 50/50 shot as far as the Excel boats opinion goes. Someone told me today that the Excels are ribbed on the underside, which puts me off because of the stumps we hunt in. Are the Prodigy boats flat? And if you have any other Prodigy advice, please feel free to add it. Many Thanks.

Listen to him… 3/16 should be the standard for driving any type of stumps/logs with a mud motor. Listen to him… 3/16 should be the standard for driving any type of stumps/logs with a mud motor.

Duals offer slightly better top-end performance, but the single will knock it out of the hole. The Duals have a little bog on launch until airflow picks up.
